'Novel Braking Solution' image

The TfI Advanced Brake/Torque Control System is based on fluidic resistance, with rotating cogs pumping fluid within an enclosed body with the torque and braking being controlled through the use of valves. The brake requires no brake pads. The technology is completely scalable from micro sized devices of just a few microns up to very large devices a few meters in diameter. It contains few moving parts, is totally sealed and is optimised to deliver maximum performance for minimum volume.

The failsafe brake application has a low cost of ownership as it has: 1) minimal maintenance, 2) low power consumption and 3) long lifetime. Able to operate successfully as both a dynamic and traditional holding / emergency brake, it can also be configured as a brake / clutch. The system can be configured to be regenerative through the use of an accumulator and associated hydraulic system.

TfI's novel technology allows a wide range of parameters to be chosen to optimise a design for any particular customer application. For example:hydraulic fluid, materials, number of planetary gears, number of gear teeth, channel width and valve type can all be optimised and tailored to meet almost any requirement across many applications.

TfI is actively offering this patented technology to manufacturers seeking lower maintenance and lower cost braking solutions for their devices and systems. Demonstration systems can be built for customer specific applications to illustrate performance and key commercial benefits.

This technology is currently being reviewed for applications in the mining sector.
