The sources of
ideas submitted to TfI are many and varied and include lone inventors,
SMEs, VCs and our own employees. However, our focus is on supporting
third level researchers and their Technology Transfer Offices (TTO) commercialise
their ideas.
We offer an easy and quick alternative
route for commercialising your ideas without the difficulties of developing the technology
yourself. We have framework agreements in place with TTOs that allows individual
researchers to directly share their ideas with TfI.
Once ideas are shared with TfI and approved by the university, we
evaluate and develop the concepts which are then sold to industry
customers for product development. Suitable ideas are quickly identified
and an up front payment given to the researcher before full evaluation work commences. TfI bears the total cost of this with there being no cost to the researcher
or university. Once complete, TfI then sells the concept and returns an agreed share of the profits to the researcher and university.

book extract written by the founders of Technology from Ideas.
